Client Situation:

Client Situation: A retail client approached us after experiencing failures in their initial AI implementations. The board was hesitant to invest further in AI, while the executive management believed that AI was crucial for long-term survival. The tension was palpable as executives struggled to justify AI investments to the board, relying heavily on an IT services company that had previously delivered subpar results.

Our Approach:

To address the problem, we divided it into three key areas:
  • Do executives understand AI?
  • Is AI suitable for their business?
  • If yes, what is a pragmatic, actionable plan?

Solution:

AI Strategy Workshop

We initiated a one-day workshop on AI Strategy for the executive management, with a few board members also attending. This workshop bridged the understanding gap between the board and the executive management, sparking innovative ideas and aligning their thought processes.

Assessing AI Suitability

While retail businesses generally benefit from AI, it was essential to determine the company’s readiness for AI, including data availability and quality. We conducted a strategy formulation exercise, where executives, who recently attended the AI workshop, contributed valuable insights, making the discussions more productive.
Findings: Our analysis revealed that the technical team had developed customer support chatbots for other clients and recommended the same for this client, simply because they had the code ready. However, the client lacked sufficient data for effective chatbot implementation, resulting in suboptimal and sometimes inaccurate outcomes.

Defining AI Use Cases

Based on their requirements, data state, and cultural readiness, we prioritized their AI use cases as follows:

  • Dynamic Pricing
  • Personalized Recommendations
  • Demand Forecasting
  • Supply Chain Optimization
  • Customer Sentiment Analysis
  • In-store Experience Enhancement

Though these results seem straightforward, they were derived from an in-depthunderstanding of the company’s business.
